Founded in 1952 in Portland, Oregon, Phillips Electronics began as a humble electronics repair shop built on a foundation of craftsmanship, integrity, and service. In those early years, Bob Phillips worked tirelessly to meet the growing demand for reliable electronic repairs in the post-war era. Over time, Phillips developed a reputation for technical excellence and innovative problem-solving—qualities that would define the company for decades to come.
By the 1970s, as the security needs of local businesses began to rise, Phillips responded by designing and installing custom alarm systems for banks across the region. This shift marked a pivotal moment in our history. What began as one-off security solutions grew into a full-scale transition toward alarm monitoring and protective signaling, setting the stage for Phillips to become one of the region’s early pioneers in electronic security systems.
Pioneering Security Innovation With Deep Portland Roots
Phillips was the first in the industry to develop and patent bank teller drawer and vault alarm technology, demonstrating a commitment to technological innovation that continues today. Roberta Phillips also played a critical role in shaping the next generation of security professionals, to establish Oregon’s protective signaling branch of apprenticeship and laying the groundwork for standards still in use.
